historic與 historical 中文都是「歷史的」，因此許多人搞不清楚兩者的區別。台灣有不少歷史古蹟、歷史建築的英文標示都寫成historical building，譬如：新北市觀光旅遊網介紹新莊老街、林泉成古厝的英文是 “Xinzhuang's historical street”, “the Linquancheng historical building”；新成立的「陽明山古蹟聚落生態護育聯盟」，英文名稱是 “Yangmingshan Historical Building – Eco Village Preservation & Education Alliance”。

其實簡單來說，historic是指「以前的東西，現在還存在」；historical則是指是「歷史上的、已經過去的事」。

因此地道的英文講法「歷史建築」是historic building，「歷史事件」是historical event。見以下Google搜索結果：

"all existing historical buildings"約有 6 項結果 (Google Dec 18, 2017)

"all existing historic buildings" 約有 8,060 項結果

"on historical buildings in the UK" 5 項結果

"on historic buildings in the UK" 約有 65,200 項結果

找不到 "guide to the historical sites of Canada" 的結果。

"guide to the historic sites of Canada" 約有 13,200 項結果

不過historic與 historical的用法，現在連母語人士也會混淆，所以若聽到英美人士說 *historical buildings，也不用大驚小怪，就像有些作家也會把「反映意見」寫成 *「反應意見」一樣。 (Jerome Su, Dec 18, 2017)
