常見有人把urban
legend譯為「都市傳說」(如維基百科中文版) 或「都會傳奇」，英文的urban
legend其實和「都會傳奇」意思大相逕庭。urban
legend的意思是“an often
lurid story or anecdote that is based on hearsay and widely circulated as true” (Merriam-Webster)
英文說: “Give me
a break, ya'll, it's an Urban Legend.”或 “No, it's an urban legend, created by troll to
make nonsense.” 都是在反駁人家傳述無稽之談。
In
Chinese 都會傳奇 has a good connotation
while urban legend is usually negative. 如: “就以談戀愛/來成全二人使命/虔誠地廝守/都會傳奇”《小傳奇》歌詞；“各位都會傳奇的愛好者，這部豐富堆疊、美味誘人的冒險饗宴可以讓您盡情地 ...”；“在網路上卻是被奉為都會傳奇的天才玩家”。(Jerome Su, Dec. 30, 2016)
